Welcome to

Rolls-Royce Badminton Club,

Derby

New Member and Visitor Information

Welcome to the RRBC website. We are a badminton club based in Derby. Visitors are very welcome to attend the club which runs on a Friday and Sunday evening at Bemrose School, from 7:00-10:00pm.

Background

Rolls-Royce Badminton Club has long been a competitive and social club, formed as a section of the Rolls-Royce Recreational Society, by company workers in the 1950s. RRBC competes in the Derby and District Badminton League, and has since the league was formed. For the last twenty years, RRBC has also competed in the Nottinghamshire Badminton League. There is no requirement for RRBC players to be RR workers.

Clubnights

The club has two clubnights each week during which doubles games are chosen from a picking board, similar to many clubs. Feather shuttles are used for clubnight. The standard on clubnights ranges from lower league standard to senior county-standard players.

Where and When

The club plays at the Bemrose School (Uttoxeter New Rd, Derby, DE22 3HU  Google map link). The car park entrance is via Rowditch Avenue, and the sportshall is behind the main building. We play on a Friday and Sunday evening from 7pm until 10pm (7pm to 9pm during July and August). The junior club runs from 5pm until 7pm on a Sunday evening.

Annual Fees

The cost of club membership for 2023-2024 is £260 for full adult membership for 12 months - this includes all clubnight costs for the two weekly clubnights. There are concessionary fees for junior members, full-time students and honourary members. The club is non-profit making and all fees are used for hall hire on the two nights, shuttle purchase etc. Badminton England also charge each player an affiliation fee to play in teams.

Visitors

We offer a £7 per night 'pay-and-play' option to visitors. Money paid as a visitor fee is deducted from future membership fees for that year, should the visitor decide to join.

League Play

Rolls-Royce BC has teams in both the Derby and Notts Leagues competing at a range of levels. Teams are chosen by the committee in September and matches take place between October and April.

Tournaments

The club holds intra-club tournaments annually which are handicapped to give everyone a chance of success!

Social Events

There are a range of club social events arranged through the year, such as a darts night, and 10-pin bowling.
